Cold Brew Coffee Art: Step-by-Step Guide
The cold brew method has gained popularity due to its ability to delicately extract the subtle flavours of coffee beans, creating a smooth and low-acid beverage. In this article, we will shed light on the step-by-step process of preparing cold brew, allowing you to make a trendy cup of cold coffee in your own kitchen.
Guide
- Gather the necessary tools and ingredients. You will need:
- Coarsely ground medium- to dark-roasted coffee beans;
- Cold filtered water;
- A large glass jar or container with a lid that can hold the desired amount of water and coffee grounds;
- Fine sieve or cotton cloth: you will need this later to strain the coffee grounds;
- Optional: natural flavourings (cinnamon sticks, vanilla extract, or chocolate syrup)
- Measure the desired amount of coffee and water. The optimal ratio for cold brew is 1:4 or 1:5, depending on the preferred strength. Start with 1 part coffee to 4 parts water and adjust according to your taste preferences.
- Carefully mix the coffee and water in the container to evenly distribute the coffee grounds. At this point, you can add any additional flavourings.
- Close the jar tightly with the lid.
- Allow the coffee to steep in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours. The longer the steeping time, the stronger and bolder the taste.
- After the steeping time, strain the coffee grounds. Place a fine sieve or cloth over a clean container and slowly pour the beverage through them. Repeat the process if necessary to achieve a clean and smooth texture.
- The coffee will be quite concentrated, so it’s best to dilute it before serving. Start by mixing equal parts of the concentrate and water, adjusting according to your taste preferences.
Cold brew coffee can be served with ice, milk, cream, ice cream, and favourite syrups.
