Brewing method – The AeroPress
The AeroPress is a coffee brewing device designed and developed by American engineer Alan Adler in 2005 and produced by the company of the same name. The beverage is made by steeping ground coffee in hot water.
The step-by-step process for brewing coffee in an AeroPress is quite simple but requires a few important points to be kept in mind:
- Boil water in a separate container and allow it to cool to a temperature of 175-205°F (79–96 °C). This normally takes 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Grind 17 to 20 grammes of coffee beans to a medium consistency.
- Assemble the AeroPress: insert the paper filter in the AeroPress lid, screw it onto the chamber, and place the construction over a cup or coffee pot.
- Add the ground coffee beans to the AeroPress.
- Fill the AeroPress with hot water up to the top of the chamber.
- Gently stir the coffee grounds to ensure that they are evenly soaked.
- Allow the coffee to infuse for 1-2 minutes, depending on your taste preference.
- Insert the plunger into the AeroPress and press down gently, pushing the coffee through the filter into the cup.
If the coffee is too strong, you can dilute it with hot water.
The Aeropress allows you to use a variety of brewing methods, so feel free to experiment to find the flavour that suits you perfectly.
