Brewing method – In a mug
Brewing coffee in a mug is the easiest and most convenient way of preparation, which allows you to enjoy a cup of fresh coffee in the kitchen, on a trip, or in the office. Its preparation does not require any special equipment or skills; all you need is a mug, a kettle with hot water, and your desire. It also gives you full control over the brewing process, allowing you to experiment and change the parameters to your liking.
Method:
- To create a delicious cup of coffee, you will need:
- a mug;
- a kettle;
- ground coffee beans;
- hot water.
- You should use a coarse grind (like granulated sugar). If you have whole coffee beans, grind them just before brewing to preserve their freshness and flavour.
- Boil water; a standard cup needs to reach about 92–95 °C (197.5–204 °F). Switch off the kettle and let it stand for 30 seconds to a minute to reach the desired temperature.
- Put the ground coffee in a mug. The recommended ratio of coffee to water is usually about 1:16, but you can adjust it to your taste. For example, 15 grams (1/2 oz) will require 240 ml (8 fl oz) of hot water.
- Moisten the coffee: pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds and let it sit for 30 seconds. This will allow the coffee to fully develop its flavour, resulting in a more delicious cup of coffee.
- Slowly pour the remaining water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, starting in the centre and moving towards the edges.
- Gently stir the drink using a spoon or mixing stick.
- Wait for the coffee to steep slightly, between 2 and 5 minutes. This will allow the coffee to develop all its flavours and the thicker sediment to settle at the bottom of the cup.
- As soon as the sediment has settled, the coffee is ready to drink. You can consume it as is or add milk, sugar, and other flavourings according to your preference.
